Beauty Beats Cancer
Why We Run
I am participating in the Chicago Undy RunWalk on June 1, 2019 at Lincoln Park South Fields.
I am running in honor of my sister and best friend Jaime DeHayes Luch who passed away from colorectal cancer at the age of 32. She was truly an angel on earth and I miss her more everyday. Every year my family participates in this race in Detroit and Chicago in her honor and in hopes that we spread the awareness of not just colorectal cancer but young onset colorectal cancer. Colorectal cancer (cancer in the colon or rectum) has become a reality for many people younger than age 50, and it’s the only group where incidence rates are on the rise. In fact, 11% of colon cancer diagnoses and 18% of rectal cancer diagnoses occur in those under 50. The hard reality: you’re never too young for colorectal cancer. That’s why we need to educate ourselves about the risks of this disease now regardless if you currently have symptoms or are of average-risk.
Please support my involvement in the Undy RunWalk with any amount in honor of my sister. This is a tax-deductible donation. Your support will help us prevent colorectal cancer and save lives.
