I’m so honored to be a 2019 AmBASHador at this year’s Blue Hope Bash, DC. This role will allow me to help in the overall goal to raise $2 million to fight against and cure colorectal cancer.
I was diagnosed with Stage lll colorectal cancer in August 2015, at the age of 51. I was blessed to have a great team of doctors at Beaumont Hospital who took care of me through this life-changing diagnosis. I remember my oncologist explaining my treatment plan and what to expect. The best part? I wouldn’t lose my hair! However, during my second round of chemotherapy, to my doctor’s surprise, I lost all my hair, I was the first patient of his to have this happen to them. This was the beginning of many side effects. I woke up on my birthday with a mouth full of canker sores, which made it painful to eat or drink...so I didn’t. As depression set in, I did a lot of praying. I was so blessed with the support of my family and friends. I am now in my third year of remission, and realize that God gave me a second chance to help encourage someone that is going through this awful disease.
Colorectal cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer related deaths, but 90% are preventable. 1 in 23 will receive a colorectal cancer diagnosis and already 1.4 million people have been impacted.
I’m so grateful for Colorectal Cancer Alliance’s mission to spread awareness, support patients and fund research to end colorectal cancer. Their three pillars say it best: Screen, Care and Cure.
Join me in achieving my personal goal of raising $2,500 towards the cause. This issue is very dear to me, and I sincerely appreciate all the support I can get! Thank you to all my friends, family, coworkers, and supporters for your generosity in supporting this fundraiser. Your donation is tax deductible.
