Why I Run
Gayle Armstrong: Team Captain for Armstrong's Army
Armstrong’s Army will be participating in the 2019 Portland Undy Run/ Walk on Saturday, June 15th at Willamette Park in Portland.
I am a long-term survivor of Stage IV colorectal cancer. It has been almost 10 years since I first heard these shocking words: “inoperable, incurable, terminal.” My journey to the point of my current remission has been amazing: a perfect intersection of living in a time when medical miracles are possible, staying current with medical research, benefiting from excellent medical treatment and the phenomenal support of my family and friends, staying optimistic with a focus upon living my life instead of my demise….and some old-fashioned good luck!
At my five-year Stage IV anniversary, I decided to pay it forward. I asked the Colon Cancer Alliance (since renamed to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance) if they would work with me to bring the Undy Run/ Walk to our beautiful city for the first time in 2016. We have since had three very fun and highly-successful Portland Undy Run/ Walk events! I enjoy continuing to serve as the chairperson for our amazing volunteer Portland Engagement Team.
Please consider joining my team and/ or providing a tax-deductible donation. I hope to see you at the finish line of the Portland Undy Run/ Walk! Together, we can also reach the finish line for this terrible disease.
Thank you for your support!
