Buns on the Run
Why We Run
Why We Run ... On March 31, 2019 we will be participating as a team in the DC Scope It Out! Please support my team's involvement in the event with a tax-deductible donation. Your support will help us end colorectal cancer and save lives. Or even better, join the team by clicking the "Join Team" button!
My journey with this disease started In 1972, when I was only 6 years old. My father died from colon cancer at the age of 35.
Thirty-four years later, in 2006, my sister was diagnosed with colon cancer at the age of 44.
Three months later, at the age of 40, I was diagnosed with colon cancer.
A couple of years after that, two of my cousins were diagnosed.
This disease has had a significant impact on my family. Several of us have battled and survived. My sister, a cousin, and I are all survivors. Sadly, a couple of my family members lost the battle: my father and one of my cousins.
I walk to honor those who have lost their lives to the disease; to support those who continue to battle the disease; to celebrate those who have survived their battles; to encourage people to get screened; to raise awareness for those who may have their own future battles to wage; and to reinforce fundraising and research that will hopefully eradicate this disease.
Please consider joining me in the race or making a donation. Thank you!
